Hackers Steal Ethereum Using Github Bots

Hackers are always smarter to hack and steal Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

A new technique has appeared and consists in using robots which scan the github.com site, in search of private keys of crypto wallets, mnemonic phrases and other private information such as account passwords.

Github.com is the reference site where developers publish the code of their blockchain and crypto applications.

Thus, a user on the Reddit forum (Tycooperaow) indicated that he was stolen $1,200 in Ethereum (ETH) by hackers who used this technique of Github bots.

“A hacker got my mnemonic and stole $1,200 in ethereum from my Metamask wallet in less than 100 seconds.

Hackers were using a bot to search for mnemonic phrases in GitHub, and I accidentally left it in my code on a GitHub repository while I was sending to a Hack Money hack-at-hon.”

The crooks and hackers are doing their utmost to steal cryptocurrencies from the public as quickly as possible, because once they have gone on the blockchain, it is basically impossible for these people to recover their tokens.

In this case, the robots configured by the hacker automatically submit transactions to steal user funds whenever they are available.
The robot scanner even increases the gas fees so that miners process the malicious transaction first instead of a transaction already submitted by the legitimate owner of these cryptocurrencies!

The victim said that he also had $700 deposited in the DeFi Compound decentralized finance protocol and that these funds would also be stolen by these very well-organized hackers.

A story that reminds us that you should not leave your passwords and mnemonic phrases lying around on the internet or on a Gmail-like email account.

Hackers scan the web with their robots to find any information or password that could let them enter an email account or steal cryptocurrencies directly as in the case cited in this article.

If we have seen in many articles that Bitcoin bots and crypto trading bots are increasingly used in BTC trading, there are also unfortunately other types of robots which are used for harmful actions and in particular theft of cryptocurrencies.

The victim of this theft reminds the public to protect their Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies, the most effective solution being a secured external crypto wallet like the Ledger Nano X.
