Bitpay rejected a donation of $100,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) to Amazon Rainforest Charity
Bitpay rejected a donation of $100,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) to Amazon Rainforest Charity!
This year in Brazil, there is 90% more fires in the Amazonian forest that is currently burning.
Sao Paolo was even plunged in the dark by the fumes of the fires.
French President Emmanuel Macron has even suspended negotiations over the Mercosur agreement in protest against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is partly considered responsible for the fires ravaging the Amazon rainforest.
Amazon Watch had received a donation of $100,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) that was rejected by Bitpay, a Bitcoin payment processor.
The reason being simple and ridiculous, Amazon Watch cannot receive payments in Bitcoin greater than or equal to $100,000!
The donation of this generous donor was refused, this news shocked the NGO Amazon Watch and the public who remains a witness to the fires in the Amazon without anything they can do.
There is of course a way to change this Bitcoin payment limit, but new documents have to be produced and this will take time, which is ridiculous when you know the urgency of the current situation for the Amazonian forest…
Donations have started to flow to charities that are strictly linked to deforestation and support for indigenous peoples.
Apparently, they had already contacted the payment company Bitpay but had no answer and decided to solve it via Twitter.
@BitPay @BitPaySupport a donor, no doubt upset about horrific #AmazonFires tried to donate $100,000 to our account today and it was rejected as too high. We want to reach out to this person to resolve this issue, but have no way to do so. We need your help, ASAP. Thank you.

Bitcoin fans have advised the Amazon Watch Association to no longer use a payment processor but to simply and manually accept BTC donations.
The basis of Bitcoin is to no longer be dependent on banks or other institutions and to be in control of your money in real time.
Amazon Watch could easily receive this donation of 100,000 dollars in Bitcoin, the donor would just need to send Bitcoin to a Bitcoin wallet belonging to the association and the problem is fixed!
Why use a Bitcoin payment processor that prevents you from receiving the Bitcoin amounts that are sent to you because there would be limites on the authorized amounts in Bitcoin…
Recently, Bitpay has also started asking users to prove their identity for amounts over $3,000.
In addition, the company is under fire for refusing to apply Segwit to their blockchain, which would significantly reduce Bitcoin fees.
The Bitcoin community has offered Amazon Watch to help set up a Bitcoin wallet to easily receive donations in Bitcoin or perhaps other cryptocurrencies.
Let’s hope that the problem is solved quickly and that the association recovers its bitcoin donation to help in its actions in the Amazonian forest.
